Round 9 - Match Report
8 Navy V Glenhaven Blue
The mornings are getting colder but the girls are stepping up their game in terms of both skill and intensity. The team quickly warmed up and were moving the ball down the court in quick fashion, and were able to show off their recently acquired skills, including Elise's bounce pass . What a move! We saw great jumps and dives in defence by Tilly. Emille showed how effortlessly she can pass a great distance. Isabella, Lauren and Milana had great energy and movement to create space and move the ball up the court. And practice paid dividends this week for Georgia and Emma scoring some great goals. And last but not least all the girls really hustled on defence to restrict the opposition to just one goal in the best defensive effort of the year. We missed Charley on our team but the opposition were loving her help in their team with some great passes. Congratulations to Lauren for player of the week and for the biggest smiles on the court! Great team work girls! A beautiful team of girls who always have fun. Looking forward to next week.
8 Green V Gazelles
Regardless of the cold weather the girls were excited, as always and ready for the challenge. The game started with some quick passes and lots of action in the middle of the court. Ollies kept on attacking and it wasn’t long before Antonia (GA) with great help from Abbie (GS) scored the first goal of the match, soon after Abbie topped up the score with another goal.
Mia and Alexa both played (C) throughout the match, were very fast on their feet, chased every ball, passing it down the court to our attackers Georgia (WA), Antonia (GA & GS) and Abbie (GS &GA) providing them with many opportunities to shoot.
Sophie (WD), Abigail (GD) and Cassie (GK) did a fantastic job in defence, with arms always up and some amazing intercepts, kept our opponents away from the circle, not giving them many opportunities to shoot. Ollies dominated the 3rd and 4th Quarters. Abbie and Antonia worked really well together in the circle, though for every ball and scored total of 9 goals between each other. Great teamwork.
Congratulations to Abbie, our “Player of the Week” who played an amazing game!
9 Gold V Baulkham Hills Sports
It was certainly a chilly winter’s morning for our game against Baulkham Hills Sports – was there really an OLOL glamour Mum sporting a “sunggy” on the sideline? Illness had hit 9 Gold with Allison missing; get well soon Allison!
Tiara our Captain did a great job winning the toss and selecting first centre. Our girls sprung to life after the umpire’s whistle and some impressive team work saw a wonderful transition down the court with our first goal of the day.
This week there was fantastic base line work by both Melissa (GS) and Portia (GA). The girls scored an impressive nineteen goals between them. There was plenty of fluid movement around the circle utilising our C (Georgia) and our WA (Zoe). Our shooting accuracy was 76% this week.
Our game against Baulkham Hills was challenging and all our girls had to work hard to keep the ball in our possession. By mid-way through the second quarter Baulkham Hills were reading our plays a bit too well for our liking; this put pressure on 9 Gold and certainly made our team utilise the space on the court more effectively. It was so pleasing to see the drills Coach Lena has been using at training were put to great use in our game this week.
Once again, our defensive “dream team” Angelina (GD), Tiara (GK) (assisted by Olivia in the second and third quarters), worked well to stay with their players. With Georgia (C) and Mia (WD) shadowing around the goal third to support their team mates, extra pressure was placed on Baulkham Hills which led to a few “held ball” calls in our favour. Great team work girls!
Congratulations to our player of the week Portia, who literally owned that base line for so much of the game and your ability to drive and shuffle is quite outstanding. Keep up the dedicated efforts Portia!
Our team worked so well together this week that once again, we allowed our opposition the chance to score just one goal.
In the past eight games, 9 Gold has only conceded 13 goals and scored an impressive 56 goals. Each week it is obvious to the spectators on the sideline just how much you girls are improving – huge thanks to Coach Lena who dedicates so much time trying to bring the best out in every single player.
Finally, our “sports inspiration” for the week: TEAMWORK Coming together is the beginning. Keeping
together is progress. Working together is success. (Henry Ford)
11D1 V St Michaels – Win 20-12
This week our girls were victorious against St Michaels 20 points to 12 .Our opponents were strong, however, our defence was very good as shown by Isabella, Alana ,Olivia and all the team with their intercepts and determination to stick by their opponent. Marisa defended with many a leap high in the air capitalising on her opponents failed attempts at goal by securing possession of the ball.
Our goal conversion was very good with Lorraine scoring 11 goals and Nicole scoring 9 goals.
Naomi was awarded player of the week due to her long strong passes that drove the ball into the circle.
This result is especially impressive considering the team consisted of only 7 girls who played all 4
quarters. Congratulations to the magic seven consisting of Lorraine as GS, Nicole as GA, Alana as C, Naomi as WA, Olivia as WD, Isabella as GK and Marisa as GD.
We wish a speedy recovery to Emma, Erin and Faith who were unable to play due to illness or injury.
Well done girls!
